Orange Alligator

A mysterious orange alligator has been spied near a pond in Charleston, Southern California. Residents say they’ve seen the orange or rust-colored alligator a number of times.  Photos show the 4 to 5 foot-long alligator on the banks of a retention pond at the Tanner Plantation neighborhood.

The sore bite!

Jay Butfiloski with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources says the color may come from where the animal spent the winter, perhaps in a rusty steel culvert pipe. Experts say the alligator will shed its skin and probably return to a normal shade soon.

Curious that this should happen in Charleston, given the role of Charles Lamb in The Earth Emperor’s Eye. Orange is also a colour synonmous with sunsets, whilst alligators are feared for their predatory nature and powerful fierce bit.  Uncanny as at dusk on the Autumn Equinox Lucy casts a protective spell,

I circle this our world with this trust and rod, against the sore stitch, against the sore bite, against the Grim Dread, against the great horror that is hateful to us all, and all evil that enters this land.
